about studio Bun

Studio Bun exists at the intersection of architecture, sustainability, and ecology. We seek to find ways to create value in sustainability, whether through cost-efficient pathways to compliance, detailed thermal envelope optimisation, or research into the broader ecological impacts a project may have. We are uniquely equipped to advise clients on strategies of engagement within existing sustainability frameworks.

Ellie Honybun, director

Ellie Honybun is a registered architect and accredited energy rater with over a decade of experience across residential and large-scale projects. Her background spans both architecture and ecology, giving her a unique insight into the intersections between architectural proposals, sustainability regulatory frameworks and broader ecological principles.

Ellie has held teaching roles at the University of Melbourne, and collaborated on ecological research projects in the Antarctic. This breadth of experience allows Studio Bun to offer a variety of lenses through which to view the sustainability impacts of a project. Through Studio Bun, this approach is applied to projects across Melbourne, Australia, and internationally, working at the intersection of thermal performance, environmental science, and architectural design.

goals of the firm

Studio Bun's intention is to make an impact at the project level, first and foremost, through clear and rigorous advice on compliance and the potential for optimisation within the built environment. That same project by project consideration extends beyond Melbourne, to projects across Australia and internationally.

Each project is understood within a broader ecology, human, political, and environmental, that shapes not only the outcome of the building itself, but the experience of those who will use it. Studio Bun's goal is to hold both scales at once: the rigour of the individual project, and the wider context it sits within.
